Festival Class Options

Competitive Classes

Graded and age levelled classes are competitive classes. All participants will receive written and verbal evaluations from the adjudicator. In competitive classes participants will also receive a mark (out of 100) and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place will be awarded based on class marks. Participants must earn a mark of 80 or higher to qualify for a class placement. Seals of Standard will be given based on marks: Gold for a mark of 90 and above, Silver for a mark of 85-89 and Bronze for a mark of 80-84. At the end of each class the adjudicator will announce the class placements but will not disclose the marks.

For School & Community Ensemble classes 1st, 2nd & 3rd placements will not be assigned, but the adjudicator will announce the Seals of Standard that are awarded to each ensemble.

Participants in competitive classes are eligible for awards and OMFA nominiations.

Non-Competitive Classes

Non-Competitive Classes are available to participants of all ages, levels & styles who wish to have a fun and educational experience without the pressure of competition. Classes are available in all divisions listed in this Syllabus. In Non-Competitive classes students will receive written and verbal feedback from the adjudicator and a Participant's Ribbon as they would in any other class. Performances will not be assigned a mark, and since participants are not competing, they will not receive class placements.

Non-Competitive classes will be organized based on registration so that participants of similar ages, levels and styles will be grouped together.

Adult-Child groups can register for any Non-Competitive Ensemble class.

To register for a Non-Competitive class participants should select the appropriate category above and then select the "Non-Competitive" option.

Adult Amateur Classes

Adult Amateurs classes are non-competitive and are available to participants who are 29 years of age or older (adults ages 29 or older are not eligible to enter in competitive classes). Participants will receive written and verbal feedback from the adjudicator and a Participant's Ribbon as they would in any other class. Performances will not be assigned a mark, and since participants are not competing, they will not receive class placements.

Adult Amateurs may be nominated to participate in the OMFA Provincials where applicable.

Adult participants should select the appropriate category above and then select either "Non-Competitive" or "Adult Amateur" from the class options. "Non-Competitive" classes will be organized so that adults are grouped together.
